Col.CC Bar Fights Event Recap
Last night, me and JaknDax went to the Bar Fights event here in Los Angeles. After a full 100+ Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 session to prep him for his Beat a Pro match against Mike Ross, we were pretty hyped to go. I remembered the old Bar Fights events before and I figured that it would be in a nice Hollywood-ish venue with bouncers and tons of casual people walking around talking about how cool or how silly this video game is. You know the deal, but as we drove up to the venue a few things crossed my mind: 1.) Where’s the bar? I see a line but, no bar. 2.) We are NOT parking under that Overpass just to get mugged by some Balrog looking dude.
After a good 5-10 minutes of looking for a parking space, we finally got in line for the event. At first what may have seemed like a HUGE line really wasn’t. I can not give a good estimate but there were less people than expected but later that night more and more people gathered to see all the hype. Once all of the Beat a Pro players were in, the non-RSVP players and spectators were let in by the Box Arena crew’s HunnneeB (she’s awesome!) Once I got in I was like, “WOW! This reminds me of Bmarq’s UGTL series and how it was set up.” There were two HUGE rooms. One for the Beat a Pro/Exhibition matches with the stream set up by Team Spooky (shoutouts to Vic for running a great stream) and the other room was the Street Fighter x Tekken/ Super Street Fighter 4 AE 2012 stations with the Box Arena running the stream there.
Between the two rooms there was the bar and thanks to Col.CC the drinks were on the house (yes!) but there was only two choices sadly both with vodka. Free is FREE so I wasn’t complaining at all! Can’t have free drinks without some food, so they had food there; burritos, tacos, and stuff. Not free but definitely worth the meal.
So let’s get to the main stuff, the exhibition matches. So if you watched the stream, behind the players there was the main stage and then the crowd. On the main stage there was a HUGE projector (well there were two of them but the other was for ads and shit.) So everyone could see the match no matter where they were at. The SSF4AE match between Stienmania and SHGLBMX was pretty hype but for me the hypest match was between Noel Brown and Knives. Funny story behind that, so Knives was at the UMvC3 station playing casuals with some dude (can’t remember his name) and LLND, he was like “Yo Imma money match Noel man, that match was ass.” At first I thought he was just poppin’ off because shit the whole room was like “FUCK NOEL!” So next thing you know Gootecks is like, “We have a special match that wasn’t in the line up tonight….” And you know how that goes.
I swear to GOD. I thought Knives was losing it. But wow he knows his team so well and they work amazing together!
Evey match was hype, with the exception of Marn vs Combofiend. Ouch right? Knives vs Jago wasn’t too hype due to people wanting to see Jago getting bodied by Combofiend but seriously that match would’ve ended up like Marn’s. If anything I would’ve liked to see Justin play Combofiend.
Overall this was a great event and a great pre-SoCal Regionals hype for this upcoming weekend! Can not wait for the next BarFights!
Jago’s traning montage before the upcomming fight with Mike Ross. As hype as this is I’m putting my money on a 5-0 lol.
Andre (Twisted Jago)…. yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah he is going to make this fun!
